I would like to continue my conversation from last night about the uke’s attack. I feel that if there is no solid real attack during the training then nobody learns. Nobody is ready for the real world. Not the nage or the uke. If the nage is accustomed to a nonchalant attack then when the real meal deal comes they get caught. Thus the uke is learning to not grab, strike or even take somebody down. When they do go to strike in the real world their strikes will not be affective or they may get all wound up and run out of gas. Then die.
I really feel that if you are training in a martial art you have to come to class with a budo attitude. Now I am not saying that the ukes attack should be like a car crash and hurt somebody. The attack should always be controlled, training with the attitude to make things as effective as possible without hurting.
One other thought on this is without a controlled solid meaningful attack some techniques will not work. Thus the nage will never learn nor will the uke. This will do nothing but give false confidence in a technique.
I hope that I start a conversation or a noticeable change in the way attacks are taking place.
